“Hi there Creativity! Nice to see you again!” Reintroducing yourself to your creativity!
Part 1 of 2

Ready to have your mind blown? Creativity really has nothing to do with the “left side” vs. “right side” of your brain.
According to Scientific American: “The latest findings from the real neuroscience of creativity suggest that the right brain/left brain distinction does not offer us the full picture of how creativity is implemented in the brain. *Creativity does not involve a single brain region or single side of the brain.”
It’s actually much more complicated than that. Check out the SA blog for more on the hard science. But for our purposes, understand that “creativity” is a function of our brains that is “the ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules, patterns, relationships, or the like, and to create meaningful new ideas, forms, methods, interpretations, etc.; originality, progressiveness, or imagination.”
It’s not overstating to say that creativity is the life force behind every invention ever created. When the wheel was created (some say as far back in 3100 BC) no one had any idea what the implications of that invention would have to commerce, transportation, and the thousands of other things that require wheels to function. People took that idea of “that round thing” and made it into something else entirely. Something that they imagined would help solve some problem in the world.
In 1975, when Bill Gates and Paul Allen created Microsoft, they did it with the vision of putting a computer in every home. Not only is that innovative and forward-thinking – but how creative of them to think that this hulking box of microprocessors would morph into the very thing I’m writing this blog on more that 40 years later.
So often we push aside our creativity in favor of more pragmatic things. And let’s face it, life is full of pragmatic things that just get in the way of reaching our true creative potential. Things like marriage, kids, school, work, bills, - and yes even social media – are stifling our creative selves. This is leaving us overstimulated, exhausted and unfulfilled.

What our mission is here at VISVA is to filter out some of that social noise and provide you with content that feeds your soul. Content that helps you understand the world better and that stirs the creative voice within you.
We’ll be back later next week to show you some ways to jumpstart your creativity!
